A Brief Introduction to Jiangsu Province

  Jiangsu Province is located in the middle of the east coast of China and at the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with the Yellow Sea to its east. It borders on Zhejiang Province and Shanghai in the southeast, Anhui Province in the west, and Shandong Province in the north. Jiangsu Province covers an area of 102,600 square kilometers, which makes up 1.06% of the territory of China; and has a population of 78 million, which makes up 6% of the total population of China.

Jiangsu Province is situated in a transitional area from a subtropical to a temperate zone. It has a mild climate with moderate rainfall and four distinctive seasons. The annual average temperature is between 13℃ to 16℃, and the annual precipitation is around 1000 mm.

The province has 13 cities directly under its jurisdiction. Under these cities, there are 100 countries, cities and districts, which include 23 county-level cities, 22 countries and 55 districts.

Jiangsu Province, known as a “land of fish and rice”, has favorable environment and charming landscape scenery. Renowned for its long history, talented people and splendid culture, Jiangsu has become one of the fair developed provinces in economy, science and culture in China. Its GDP takes up more than 10% of that on the national level, and its overall economic strength is always on the forefront in China. There is now a complete industrial system of significant scale in the province.
